Mick Grochowski, Norfolk, Virginia

Painter Mick Grochowski resides in the Willoughby area of Norfolk with his wife Nancy.  Originally from Michigan, Mick painted and exhibited his work regionally in the 1970's and 80's around his hometown of Alpena, a small town in northeastern lower Michigan. He graduated from a local Northeast Michigan college with degrees in Fine Art and Business Management.  


Mick is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Art Association, Hampton Art League, Tidewater Art Alliance, and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.  He works in both acrylics and oils and enjoys plein air and studio painting as well as experimenting in sculpture.

Mick’s work has been accepted in many local and regional, juried and non-juried exhibits.

  • Jan 2018:  “Chu Lia Night” Acrylic Painting, accepted into the collection of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico, VA.
  • Feb 2017:  “Wreck of The Nordmeer” selected as cover for 2017 American Academy of Underwater
    Science Symposium at NOAA Thunder Bay Underwater Preserve in Alpena, MI
  • 2016: “Artist in Residence” at the Thunder Bay River Center in  Alpena, MI  for the  period August 16 – Sept 21, 2016
  • July 2016: “Coal Dusk” received 1st place award in oil painting, pro div. Senior Artfest, 2016, Norfolk, VA
  • Jan 2016: “Dune Shadows” 3rd place award, Hampton Arts League 2016 Show at the Charles H. Taylor Art Center, Hampton, VA
  • Jan 2016: Exhibited several works, including 4 paintings from the “Native American Lore”  series at state of  Virginia General Assembly Building in Richmond, VA
  • Sept 2015:  “Richmond by Rail” accepted into Mid Atlantic Plein Air Exhibit “City-scapes” at Peale Center,  Art Museum, Baltimore, MD

  • Jan 2015: Exhibiting several works including “Emancipation Oak” at state of Virginia General Assembly   Building in Richmond,  VA  
  • Nov 2014: "White Doe-Spirit of Virginia Dare” and "Cat Lady" accepted for Hampton VA Halls of Art   Exhibit.
