Lisa Mitchell, Sparks, Maryland
Lisa Mitchell is an award-winning Maryland artist who works in both oil and pastel. She has been juried into significant plein air competitions including Plein Air Easton, Paint Annapolis, Mountain Plein Air, Plein Air Curacao, Norfolk Plein Air, Easels in Frederick, Wayne Plein Air and Richmond Plein Air to name a few.
Lisa is a past President of the Maryland Pastel Society. Lisa is a Signature Member of the Maryland Pastel Society, and the Maryland Portrait Painters Society. She is also a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painter’s Association.
Lisa believes in continually improving her skills by attending international conferences as well as national workshops. She has studied with nationally known artists Doug Dawson, Bob Rohm, Richard McKinley, Kenn Backhaus, Kim English, David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Peter Fiore, Marc Hanson, Albert Handell and Mark Boedges. She offers weekly plein air to studio painting instruction in oil and pastel at the Zoll Studio School of Fine Art in Lutherville, MD.
Lisa received her formal art education at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, concentrating her studies in Illustration and Graphic Design. She began her career as an illustrator switching to portraiture, painting children’s portraits for about 20 years. She has since changed her focus and paints landscapes en plein air and in the studio. Lisa’s paintings are represented at the McBride Gallery in Annapolis, MD.
